Do you know how to brush your teeth correctly and what not to forget?
A beautiful smile with bright white teeth is a business card with which we present ourselves at work and in our private life. It is the first thing that we notice on a person besides the eyes. That's why it's really important to take good care of your teeth - not only for aesthetic benefits, but also for health. Caries and inflammation in the oral cavity can lead to more serious health complications, the solution of which is much more difficult than what we should do thoroughly every morning and evening - clean our teeth precisely. In this article, you will find some tips on how to do it from an experienced dentist.
From an early age, our parents learn us the correct habits of brushing our teeth. You have to brush your teeth every day, morning and evening - we heard that from them already in the days when we still had baby teeth. And indeed, it is. You have to learn the right habits in the field of oral hygiene, get used to them and make them a daily routine. Without exception! However, routine does not mean brushing your teeth just out of habit, haphazardly - on the contrary, consistency, precision and attention to detail are extremely important when brushing your teeth. Three minutes in the morning and in the evening do not take much time, but the effect of perfect oral hygiene is enormous. Just imagine how much pain and money you will spend on unnecessary drilling, repairs and tooth reconstruction!
We should only brush our teeth in the morning after breakfast. We wash them for free after waking up, when we have breakfast for a while, and we have, for example, pieces of salami, paprika or oatmeal left in the spaces between our teeth. After every meal, we should rinse our mouths or at least drink water or chew gum - it paradoxically supports the production of saliva, which naturally takes care of cleaning and "washing" the teeth. However, we should only chew the gum as long as we feel like it, which means about 10 minutes. Chewing gum for a long time puts strain and wear on the jaw joint.
Brushing your teeth is extremely important, especially in the evening. Saliva is not produced during sleep, so what we leave in our mouth before going to sleep stays there all night until morning. After eating, an acidic environment is created in the oral cavity that supports the growth of disease-causing bacteria - and in it we expose our teeth to damage for eight or more hours. Imagine leaving your car to corrosion on purpose or due to carelessness. If it bothers us, how much more should we care about our own teeth, because they accompany us most of our lives!
And when compared to a car, we would stay, if you will. Imagine that you would wash the car only on the largest surfaces and you would forget about details, protrusions, wipers or mirrors. Surely you would consider it a sloppy job. The same applies to brushing your teeth. It is not enough to focus on large areas, we should think about every detail. It is in the dark corners that tooth decay is created most easily. That is why, in addition to a classic or sonic toothbrush (for example, Orava Stomafresh), the equipment for brushing your teeth should also include a single-beam toothbrush, dental floss, or an oral shower (for example, Orava Stomafesh-05). With these tools, we should also be able to clean the grooves on the teeth, places where the teeth overlap, the inside of the teeth, the root of the tooth just above the gum or the back "eights".
When cleaning, we should proceed systematically: first the lower row, then the upper row or vice versa, from left to right or in the opposite guard, each tooth in turn, without missing a single one, clean one and move on to the next. It is definitely not correct to brush in the left corner and then jump to the right side. First, we should clean our teeth thoroughly with a brush, and then we should rush to finish cleaning with a single-beam and interdental brush. With the interdental brush, it is important to choose the right size - according to the size of the gaps between the teeth - so that the cleaning is really thorough and the brush does not "fly" freely in the gap. People who have bridges, implants or wear braces should pay attention to precise oral hygiene. In these cases, it's good to rely on the cleaning power of the oral shower.
As for the choice of brush, softer ones are suitable. When brushing the teeth, we should exert sufficient pressure on the tooth with the brush - not too much, so that the cleaning is effective, and not too much, so as not to destroy the enamel. The sonic brush warns you of excessive pressure with a sound signal. Ultra-soft brushes are intended for those who suffer from inflamed gums and periodontitis. Be careful, the paste will not work miracles, the basis is a thorough mechanical cleaning. And it doesn't matter if you reached for menthol, herbal or eco bio paste. We should always change the brush after an illness, when it is already "chewed" with bent bristles or every three months. The role of paste is often overestimated, paste in the mouth will not work miracles. Thorough mechanical cleaning is the alpha and omega. Don't forget to clean your tongue either. After eating, in an acidic environment, enamel demineralization occurs, so it is necessary to use a remineralization product (e.g. Elmex gelée or GC Tooth Mousse) once a week.
During the day, we should eat 3-5 times a day, in the meantime observe at least two-hour breaks without food. If you want to have something sweet, treat yourself to a snack rather than a sweet spot at the end of lunch, not for an hour or two in the afternoon. It is certainly not right to sip wine or nibble on nuts or chips for an hour or two in the evening in front of the TV. The teeth are thus exposed to an acidic environment for a longer period of time, which is definitely not good for them. The worst thing for the teeth is when we eat something small all day. Did you know, for example, that we should rinse our mouths after eating fruit? The frequency of dental hygiene is individual. Someone should complete it once every three months, the standard is once every six months, someone with a thorough teeth cleaning technique only needs to go to dental hygiene once a year.
In addition to a brush, an oral douche is one of the effective aids in brushing your teeth. With its offer, Orava has both products in one - an oral shower with a Stomafresh-05 toothbrush attachment, intended for daily cleaning of teeth, gums and tongue for teenagers and adults. You can first use it as a classic toothbrush and then, after removing the brush head, as an oral rinse and tongue cleaner. With a stream of water with a pressure of 8.9 bar, it cleans even hard-to-reach places, which every owner of crowns, implants, bridges or dental braces will appreciate.
In addition, oral douche massages and bloods the gums, thus supporting their health. It is thorough, but sensitive even for those who suffer from swollen, red and painful gums. Orava Stomafresh-05 is also a great helper for seniors, for whom manual cleaning is difficult. It boasts four cleaning modes that you can easily change with a single button. In the product package, you will find one toothbrush attachment, two nozzle attachments - oral shower - and two tongue cleaning attachments. If you color-coded the handpieces, you can use one device together with your partner (you only need to get your own toothbrush). The base remains, you only change the individual handpieces, which have a lifespan of 6 months, after which we recommend that you replace them for hygienic reasons.
